The Storyliner - Submit 2

Before you submit, keep the following show guidelines in mind.

GUIDELINES

1. Stay outside of the characters’ heads. This story is a mystery of sorts. If we stay out of everyone’s heads, the mystery will be richer and less likely to get bogged down. Don’t tell us what they’re thinking. Show us what they’re doing.

2. Use brief descriptions. The audience of this podcast will likely be consuming each episode while they’re doing something else. Brief descriptions of scenes and actions will make the story easier to follow (audience) and evolve (writers).

3. Significant new characters should be introduced sparingly. If there’s a compelling opportunity to add a new presence, you should. But keeping significant new characters to a minimum will help us avoid deus ex machina pitfalls.

4. No vampires, no ghosts, no magic wands. A modest sci-fi inflection might be interesting, but beyond that, to ensure that a broad audience can enjoy and participate in the story, it needs to take place in the “real” world.

5. The story should have one voice. Try to maintain a straightforward, unadorned voice to ensure that listeners and writers can easily engage with it. Try to stay reasonably close to the tone and voice of whatever episode preceded yours.

6. Keep the story moving. You probably would not enjoy watching a TV show about a guy who just sits and thinks a lot. Nor would you likely watch much of a film in which the only action was two people sitting in a room and talking. So make sure something (ideally a few things!) happens during your submission.
